HBO has delivered a surprising blow by announcing the cancellation of The Idol after just one season. The HBO drama, which featured Lily-Rose Depp and Abel Tesfaye, widely known as The Weeknd, failed to secure a second season, as confirmed by Entertainment Weekly. The show`s premise revolved around a young pop sensation named Jocelyn, portrayed by Lily-Rose, who becomes enmeshed in a secretive cult led by The Weeknd`s character, Tedros.
The decision to discontinue the series comes in the wake of the first season`s conclusion, marking a notable departure from the trajectory of many television shows that anticipate further development. A spokesperson from HBO shared, "The Idol was one of HBO`s most provocative original programs, and we`re pleased by the strong audience response. After much thought and consideration, HBO as well as the creators and producers have decided not to move forward with a second season. We`re grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work."
