Published on October 25, 2023, the dust mitigation guideline mandates that all vehicles transporting debris and construction materials must be fully covered and cleaned. In the past few days, BMC’s enforcement team has imposed fines ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 on each non-compliant vehicle.

The highest fine was recorded in the P North ward, Malad, at Rs 80,000, while the N ward team in Ghatkopar collected Rs 70,000, and the S ward in Bhandup Powai imposed fines of Rs 45,000. BMC Commissioner I S Chahal has emphasised the need for strict action against rule violators, ensuring the enforcement continues. In addition, BMC has initiated the process of issuing intimation notices to construction sites since last week. An official statement indicates that a task force will soon conduct site inspections, as per the guidelines.
