In response to the violent clashes during the `Nabanna Abhijan`, the BJP called for a 12-hour Bengal bandh on Wednesday. The party condemned the police action against the protestors and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

More than 200 protestors were arrested across West Bengal during the `Nabanna Abhijan` rally. The arrests were made as police attempted to control the situation, which saw stones and glass bottles thrown at officers.

Police resorted to lathi-charge, tear gas, and water cannons to disperse the aggressive crowd attempting to reach the West Bengal state secretariat, Nabanna. The clashes resulted in injuries to 29 police personnel.

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari urged Governor CV Ananda Bose to impose President`s Rule in West Bengal following the violent clashes. He accused the state government of failing to maintain law and order.
