Legendary India fast bowler Jhulan Goswami has stated that she wont be surprised if the impact player rule, being used in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), will be applied in the upcoming season of womens domestic cricket and eventually in the second edition of the Womens Premier League (WPL).
The impact player rule, introduced from IPL 2023, was first used in last year`s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. So far, the rule has given the batting teams license to accumulate more runs, with 26 times scores above 200 being hit, as well as strike-rate, number of fours and sixes also witnessing a surge with the tournament largely being played on flat pitches.
