Amid the ongoing tension in the country over ‘Khalistan’, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid a visit to Golden Temple in Amritsar on Oct 02. The Congress leader paid obeisance at the temple and also offered ‘Sewa’ at the Golden Temple. Meanwhile, this brought a chance for the BJP leaders to pinch Congress over the 1984 ‘Operation Blue Star’. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma invoked ‘Operation Blue Star’ to mock Rahul Gandhi’s service as the auspicious temple. Talking to ‘X’, CM Himanta said, “Grandmother sprayed bullets and Grand child is doing sewa” Launching a scathing attack on Assam CM, Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely called it ‘Vinash Kale Viprit Buddhi’. On June 6, 1984, the Indian Army, under ‘Operation Blue Star’ stormed into the Golden Temple on orders of then PM Indira Gandhi. The order was issued to contain Sikh militancy under the leadership of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in Punjab. The Operation was heavily criticized and led to her assassination by two of her Sikh bodyguards at her New Delhi residence on October 31, 1984.
