Set in pre-Independence India, Siddharth M Malhotra’s film Maharaj is inspired by the famous Maharaj libel case of 1862, focusing on the life of journalist and social reformer Karsandas Mulji, who challenged Jadunath Maharaj, a godman accused of sexually abusing his female devotees. The film marks the debut of Aamir Khan’s son Junaid, who plays Karsandas Mulji. The cast of Netflix`s Maharaj discusses their characters and the preparation they did for their roles, bringing this powerful story to life. Junaid mentioned that this film is not an unconventional choice for him and that he takes tips from his father, Aamir Khan, for specific things. Jaideep Ahlawat talked about the physical transformation he underwent for his role and shared that his favourite artists are Irrfan and Tabu. The heroines of the movie, Sharvari and Shalini Pandey, also talked about their characters. Sharvari said she enjoyed eating Gujarati thali while shooting in Gujarat and discussed her process of learning the Gujarati language.
